Background
One of the main objectives of GENE-SWitCH is defined as enabling the use of produced knowledge to further improve the effectiveness of genomic selection in the pig and poultry sectors. WP6 takes this as a basis for its tasks and objectives. The main purpose of the outreach, dissemination and training WP is to engage and inform the stakeholders throughout the animal production chain, from breeders to consumers, enabling an increased understanding of the value of genetic information. This also includes the richly annotated high-quality genome sequences information and its application in sustainable animal production. Therefore, stakeholder engagement is of utmost importance in GENE-SWitCH, particularly to further improve the effectiveness of genomic selection in the pig and poultry sectors. Stakeholder engagement is based on the mapping of various stakeholder types and the development of strategies to create a twoway communication channel with them. GENE-SWitCH, therefore, follows a multi-actor approach that will include stakeholders and organisations that interact directly with the consortium and also those who are affected by the project or can affect the actions of the project, e.g. farmers and consumers.
